Indications and Contraindications for Massage

Indications for Massage

Musculoskeletal System:

  • chronic back, neck, and lower back pain (osteochondrosis, radiculitis);
  • poor posture, scoliosis, kyphosis;
  • muscle tension, spasms, trigger points ("computer neck syndrome");
  • recovery after injuries, fractures, and sprains (after cast or brace removal);
  • sedentary lifestyle or excessive physical activity.

 

Nervous System and Mental Health:

  • chronic stress, emotional burnout syndrome, nervous exhaustion;
  • sleep disorders, insomnia;
  • frequent headaches caused by neck muscle tension;
  • neuralgia and neuritis (during remission).

 

Aesthetics and General Well-being:

  • fluid retention, swelling of the legs and face (impaired lymphatic drainage);
  • cellulite, reduced skin tone and elasticity;
  • weakened immune system and low energy levels.

 

Contraindications for Massage

Absolute Contraindications (Massage Is Strictly Prohibited):

  • Cancer (any malignant tumors).
  • Blood disorders and bleeding tendencies.
  • Thrombosis, thrombophlebitis, severe varicose veins.
  • Aortic aneurysm, heart aneurysm, and severe heart failure.
  • Mental disorders during the acute stage.
  • HIV infection, AIDS, and active tuberculosis.

 

Temporary and Relative Contraindications:

  • Pregnancy — massage is allowed only if there are no complications and with your gynecologist's approval (lower back massage is strictly prohibited).
  • Acute conditions — elevated body temperature (above 37°C), common cold, acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI), influenza.
  • Skin conditions — fungal infections, pustules, rashes, herpes, open wounds, or recent burns in the massage area.
  • Hypertensive or hypotensive crisis (a sudden spike or drop in blood pressure before the session).
  • Menstruation — during the first 2-3 days (abdominal massage, lower back massage, and anti-cellulite treatments are contraindicated).
  • Exacerbation of any chronic diseases of the internal organs.
  • Alcohol or drug intoxication.
